Michael Keegan
Pienaar

A competitor and coach out of Iron Tiger, Cape Town. Seven bouts in, he coaches muay thai · kickboxing · hiit — the same technical, unhurried approach he fights with.

Michael with his corner between rounds

01

Technical first

Nothing gets added until the base holds up. Stance, balance, and the shift between them — then the weapon.

02

Composure

Panic costs more rounds than any gap in technique. Sessions are built to keep you thinking when the pace climbs.

03

Gym culture

Real Muay Thai in the Mother City. Hard rounds, honest feedback, and a floor where beginners are looked after.

The art of eight limbs

Boxing has two weapons. Muay Thai has eight. Every session works one of them into the rest.

Fists

Straight, hook, uppercut — the range-finders.

Competition record

347 bouts

Seven times through the ropes. The wins and the losses both taught something, and both of them show up in how Michael coaches — nothing here is theory.

Why it matters to you

A coach who has only won has never had to fix anything under pressure. Michael has been on both sides of a decision, made the walk seven times, and knows what falls apart first when the nerves arrive. That is what gets coached — not a highlight reel.

Coaching

What training
looks like

Three ways in. All of them start with a conversation about where you are now.

1-on-1

Private sessions

One hour, one focus. Technique broken down to its parts, put back together on the pads, then pressure-tested.

  • Stance, balance and the shift between them
  • Pad rounds built around your gaps, not a stock circuit
  • Ring IQ — reading distance, timing and tells
  • Muay Thai or kickboxing, whichever you're chasing

Fitness

HIIT & conditioning

The engine behind the technique. Striking-based conditioning that gets you fit without needing a fight.

  • Rounds-based intervals, not random circuits
  • Bag and pad work as the conditioning
  • Core, hips and grip — where strikers actually fatigue
  • Come for the fitness, keep the skills

Home gym

Iron Tiger

The floor Michael trains and coaches on. Cape Town Muay Thai the way it should be — hard rounds, honest feedback, and partners who make you better.

A gym is only as good as the rounds you get in it. Iron Tiger fields competitors across weight classes, which means whatever you are working on, there is someone on the floor who can give you the look you need.

New members are not thrown in. First sessions are technical, paced, and supervised — you spar when you are ready to spar, not before.
